Though hybrid cars is being used by many people around the world to cut down on fuel costs and to do their bit for the environment, there are many people who are still apprehensive about buying and using hybrid cars.
The main reason for this apprehension is the many hybrid myths that has been doing its rounds. One myth is the fact that hybrid cars are charged by plugging them. However this is not true, and is only an old wives tale by people who don’t know what a hybrid car actually is as there are no hybrid cars around that have to be charged.
Another famous myth is that the rechargeable battery found in hybrid cars last only for 2 years. This is a hoax as the eco friendly rechargeable NiMH batteries found in hybrid cars come with an 8 year warranty and last that long too.
People think that the hybrid car is a car that can give over 70 MPG. However this is not true as most hybrid cars offer 30 – 50 miles per gallon. In fact, its fuel economy ratings on the highway is worse than conventional cars.
Never think that with a hybrid car, if you run out of gas, you will be able to drive on its electric motor. This is because though it is possible to depend on the electric motor for a short time if you run out of gas, it is only if the gas engine is on and charging your hybrid electric battery that you will be able to run on its electric motor.
Moreover, trying to drive on the electric motor will only lead to a huge loss of your hybrid battery. On the contrary, if the electric motor stops working, its gas motor runs on its own and lets you drive the car like a conventional car. Just remember to never try to drive your hybrid car if you run out of fuel.
